Royal School and Orphanage
Royal School and Orphanage began when Jalia would ride down the road and see the needy children along the road. She had such a burden that she used her savings and began the Royal Jr. School and Orphanage to help take care of these children. She did not have much money nor the means to support it, but she prayed and trusted God would provide.
In 2000 a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church visited Uganda and "by chance" visited the Royal school. He gave Jalia his email address, but Jalia did not know then what an email was. After some time she asked a friend to help her and she made contact with the man, and Mt. Gilead began trying to help. Groups from Mt. Gilead visited in 2003, 2004, and 2005 and began trying to set up sponsorship support for Royal. During that time, Royal was located on a 1/4 acre of land with between 500-750 children. Many of the children were sleeping 2-3 per bed in very bad conditions.
Mt. Gilead raised the money to buy land for the school and orphanage and brought over 3 choirs between 2006-2008 to help raise money to build a new school and orphanage. The school is now located in Mityana, Uganda, on 30+ acres of land set up on a mountain.
Stateside the ministry of Royal was passed to Mosaic Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2009. In December 2010, Mosaic Church passed the full ministry of the Royal School and Orphange to Pennies for Posho.
Currently we are raising money to finish paying off the debt left from the construction of the new school and orphanage. We are also partnering with Love Grows, another ministry based out of Charlotte, NC, to help with the monthly support and sponsorship of the school.
In the future, we desire to build a new dormitory for the boys at the school, as well as begin a secondary school so that their education and discipleship can continue at Royal.
